Flims, Laax, Falera
The linked sports resorts of Flims-Laax-Falera are within easy reach of Chur (just 18 km west on a hillside above the Rhine river). Over the last few winters, this huge winter-sports area, the largest in Grison, with access from all three villages, has become a mecca for snowboarders. A total of 29 lift facilities and 220 kilometers of slopes, located at altitudes between 1,100 and 3,018 meters above sea level, are at your disposal. Snowboarders and free-skiers go crazy over the halfpipes, the railpark and the kicker lines in Laax! No other winter resort in Europe has started so early to provide the progressive riders with the playgrounds they need. Three monster pipes and two serious rail and kicker parks are well maintained all season long. Besides the park and pipe you’ll discover plenty of avalanche-safe free-ride areas. Broad and very well groomed runs are connected to modern and fast lifts and cable cars! By the way, all cable car stations have a New Technology Center (NTC) where you can rent any equipment!

Some 5 km west of Laax is Ilanz. In times gone by this was one of the most important towns in the whole of the canton; these days it is a commercial and cultural hub. A wander through the centre will turn up a surprising number of stately sixteenth- and seventeenth-century town houses. In summer rafting through the impressive Rhine Gorge (named the Swiss Grand Canyon) is the highlight here. It’s just 15 minutes to the huge winter-sports area of Flims, Laax, Falera. But the home base for skiers and snowboarders in Ilanz is the ski region Obersaxen Mundaun. And also the region Breil/Brigels is easy to reach. Besides ski and boarder cross you’ll find snowtubing, tobogganing, snowshoe-trekking and a lot more.
