With almost 500 bars, clubs and discos, Zurich offers entertainment to suit everyone until the small hours of the morning. And from spring to fall, the offer additionally includes over 450 open-air restaurants (many of them in the numerous public swimming pools).

Zürichhorn/Seefeldquai(between Bellevue and Chinagarten) and the Landiwiese (in Wollishofen) are ideal places to be at on a hot summer day… Chill out and have a refreshing swim in the lake!

Niederdorfstrasse is the place to be at night: there are lots of restaurants/bars/pubs, guaranteed party atmosphere.

Oliver Twist (Rindermarkt 6) and Nelson (Beatengasse 11) are the pubs to go to.

Cabaret Voltaire (Spiegelgasse 1). Zurich’s world famous „Dada House“. Exhibitions, events and a café bar. Open only until 7pm, daily except Mon. www.cabaretvoltaire.ch

Rote Fabrik (Seestrasse 395). Alternative arts, restaurant, open-air bar and entertainment next to the lake. Live events: concerts, films, disco and other dance, etc. call 044 481 91 21 for the latest information. www.rotefabrik.ch

Abart (Manessestr. 170, tram Nr. 13 or bus 33 until Utobrücke). Alternative club! Offers events and concerts from alternative rock to pop. Fri & Sat regular events. Good prices. www.abart.ch

Xtra Limmathaus (Limmatstr. 118, near Limmatplatz). Very popular place to go amongst the young people of Zurich. Monday/Wednesday regular disco. Admission free. See daily press for latest concerts. www.x-tra.ch

T&M (Marktgasse 14) is a gay bar in the old town. Open daily till late (closed on Sunday).

Barfüsser (Spitalgasse 14) is Europe's oldest gay bar!

Pub Paddy Reily's (Talstrasse 82) is an Irish pub.

Kanzlei (Kanzleistr. 56, next Helvetiaplatz). Nice place (disco, bar and cinema). www.kanzlei.ch

Kaufleuten (Pelikanstrasse 18) is a club at the top end of the market (Madonna and Prince were once guests here). www.kaufleuten.ch

Toni Molkerei (Förrlibuckstrass 109) . Club in a former dairy-food factory. Definitely in. Open Thu – Sat. www.tonimolkerei.ch

Babalu Bar (Schmidgasse 6) is a perfect starting point for a hot night out on the town.

Jules Verne panorama bar (Uraniastrasse 9) is a bar at the observatory tower with a view over the roofs of Zurich.

Restaurant Café Zähringer (at Zähringerplatz 11, not far from the city backpacker ) is a good place to be and to meet people and they serve good food.


Rathaus-Café (at Limmatquai 16, directly on the Limmat river) is certainly the best spot for people-watching .

Restaurant-Bar Pumpstation (Utoquai 10). Nice place by the lakeside to enjoy a cool beer (closed when it rains).

Enge Lakeside Bathing (Mythenquai). Open-air bar at the lakeside pool offers superb views across the lake. Situated on pontoons floating on the lake.

City Beach (Bellerivestrasse 170). Located directly on the banks of Lake Zurich, swimming pools, palms, deckchairs, a large bar, and plenty of quartz sand await you.

Rimini-Bar (at the men’s swimming pool at Schanzengraben) offers mixed grill and salads, you do the grilling! (Closed when it rains).

Bar Offen (Lettensteg) is housed in an old Berlin S-Bahn coach in the now disused Letten station. Indoors or outdoors, sit back, relax and enjoy the special atmosphere.

Strandbar at Seestr. 451 offers nice views of the lake and city (mid-May to end-of October only).
